|A raisin is a dried grape. Generally the red grapes are used for producing raisins.
Used in fruit mince, fruit cakes, bread products or as a snack food or in cereals. Can be used to sweeten a curry or a casserole. Delicious in chutneys and in any baked goods.
Contrary to the popular perception that dried fruits, such as raisins promote cavities, recent studies indicate that they may benefit oral health.
Despite their sugar content Raisins are not fattening. Also, a great source of calcium, iron and magnesium.
They may improve blood circulation and lower blood pressure. They also might help brain function such as memory, cognitive function or learning abilities.
In pre-Victorian times the raisin was actually called a plum. That is why we call a "Plum Pudding" a "Plum Pudding" despite not having any plums in it!
