Culpepers’ have many grades and types of salt.

Salt is made up of approximately 40% sodium and 60% chloride. Both are minerals. Salt is a seasoning and is used to add flavour to food.

Salt is essential to life so we must have salt in our diet. Too much salt can lead to higher blood pressure and other problems so regulating the amount of salt you consume is important. We only need about 6 to 8g of salt per day, so don’t overdo it. The average human body holds about 250g of salt.

Table salt is the most common salt used at home. It differs from cooking salt in that it is salt blended with a silicon dioxide flowing agent to prevent it from going lumpy.

Cooking salt is pure salt. Both cooking and table salt have a 1mm particle size and they are used in baking, cooking, seasoning and as a general-purpose product.

Flossy salt is a general-purpose coarser grade of salt with a 2 mm particle size that is used in processing meat and general food production.

Rock salt or Bubble salt is 3 mm particle size and is often used in salt grinders for application at the dining table.

Fine salt is vacuumed dried. The particle size is much smaller than table salt, but it isn’t a powder. It is preferred for use in cheese making as it adds salt without adding grittiness.

Salt Flakes are characterised by their thin plate-like crystals and is mostly used as a decoration.

Pink salt is mined in the Himalayan Alps. The fine pink salt is 1 to 2 mm, and the rock salt is as much as 5 mm. The pink rock salt looks great in a grinder.

At the end of the day, after the salt has dissolved, they'll all do the same job and taste pretty much the same.
