Whole Linseed should be crushed or ground prior to use. It is suitable as a bread topping, within bread and cake mixes and breakfast foods such as muffins or cookies. It also can be sprinkled over salads or ice cream.
It has a nutty taste.
Linseed contains high levels of dietary fibre as well as "Lignans", an abundance of micronutrients and omega-3 fatty acids.
It may help with digestion and to lower cholesterol or even promote weight loss.
It started to be consumed as a food for around 6000 years and may have been the world first cultivated super food.
In the 8TH Century, King Charlemagne believed so strongly in the health benefits of flaxseed, that he passed laws requiring his subjects to consume it!
